S.M.I.L.E. INTERFACE AND ECOTONE II, GREEN SOUND IMPROVISATION WORK (2008-2010)

S.M.I.L.E. (2008-2010)
Overview
The performer improvises with a custom interface exploring the boundaries of two "communities" of synthesized audio in a sonic “environment” using visual scores. The gesture based interface, called S.M.I.L.E. or spherical media instrument for live environments, uses various sensors, tracks movement and produces light in real-time.
The prime area of creative work in this project is the convergence of audio-visual content with physical movement, as well as how as an “intelligent” software environment can respond to the player’s activity.
Technical Details
The piece is performed with a sonic environment created in Pure Data called ECOTONE using sound synthesis techniques, which is used in conjunction with the S.M.I.L.E. interface.
