Introduction to Games and Interactive Media

MID-TERM PROJECT (50 points total)

This project has three goals.
1) Integrating what we have learned in the class (concepts, such as expressive use of line, shape, color, highlight and shadow, dynamic/narrative motion graphics or characters and environments, 12 principles of animation and technique, awesome effects like multiplane, animated buttons, etc. and an evolution/growth of your work in these areas, as well as the Flash environment/technique).
2) Consideration of Interaction and user experience/target audience.
3) Thoughtfulness, creative approach to design or art project and technical experimentation and finesse.

Projects can be Game (Start Screen/Game Play/End Screen w/replay, Interactive Music Video, Audio-Visual Toy, 3-4 PG interface, 30-45 second Linear Video

Typed proposal (5 points)
A concise 1 or two paragraph summary of the project intended as a sales and promotional tool. It describes the project in an exciting way and is used to pitch to sponsors/funders. What is it? Who is it for? How does it work? ETC.
Include a couple sentences about your target audience and how your work with appeal to and reach them.
Include 3-4 links of similar successful pieces or elements of inspiration (either conceptual or aesthetic).

Storyboard (or Flowchart, preproduction materials) (5 points)
This is a visual representation of shots, composition and narrative flow and action visually. This will act as a template for the work. Test on another. Should be clear and expressive. Use basic cinematic language. See handouts for help.

Design elements (5 points)
Content such as characters, backgrounds, interface design, etc. in Flash and on paper. Think of how things like line, shape, color, character, H/S add to the expressiveness and appropriateness of the piece. This is mostly showing you are progressing and for feedback from PROF.

Final version (35 points)
Critiqued in class.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you shall indemnify and hold harmless Prof. A for any damages occurring due his use of the project as you have authorized.
