T206 INTRODUCTION TO DESIGN AND PRODUCTION FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you offer extra credit?
I do not plan on offering extra credit. However, you can think of time spent on help with me in my office hours like extra credit. Students who take initiative to meet with their professor and/or assistant instructors often do better in the course, because they benefit from feedback and guidance. Extra credit is unfair to students who are working hard and doing well in the course. Psychologically it is unhealthy, because we should put forth the effort in the present, not expecting to make up for some kind of lack in the end. Would you want your doctor or surgeon to have made it through medical school based on extra credit? However, I may consider extra credit toward the end of the semester.

Can I email you my assignment?
Sorry, but email can have problems. Sometimes files do not get sent or they get lost. Please hand your assignment in (hard copy) to your professor or AI when it is due, to ensure your work is received.

I have to miss class for a University sponsored event. Can I be excused?
Often this in not a problem, please speak to me well ahead of the date.

Can I leave class early?
I understand that an occasion may arise where you need to leave class early for an appointment, etc. Please let me know before class and sit at the end of the row and in the back, so you do not disturb others when you leave. However, those who make a problem of leaving class early will get a personal phone call from myself.

Can you give me or post your lectures online?
I do not share or post my lectures online. Ask someone in your discussion if they will share their notes with you. If you missed something or don't understand something, come to my office hours and we will take a look.

I am sick, what do I do?

If you are sick, it is best to let me know and not attend classes and not share your infection. Please let me know via email. If you are out for a day, I would use one of your two unexcused absences. However, if you have documentation from your healthcare provider, I will excuse the absence. Either way, be sure to get notes from a classmate and catch up/make up anything you have missed.

Will you curve the exam grades?
There has never been a case where I have needed to do this. The majority of the students receive a C (average) or above. If you do poorly on a quiz or exam it usually means you need to put in extra effort, please come to my help hours, so we can work toward improving your studying and test taking.

I need to book a flight for break, what do I do?
Please make sure you travel WITHIN the break time and plan to come to class!

I am not great taking exams and quizzes, what should I do?
See me for help, also you may want to contact the Student Academic Center. Generally- 1) Pace yourself. 2) Do not spend to much time on one question, moving on to the next question and then coming back to it may help you remember. 3) Check your answers with any extra time you have. 4) Make sure you have answered ALL the questions!
